What Your Team Will Remember

  Just the other night, since we're approaching the end of the year, kind of approaching the holiday season, I was taking a few minutes to reflect on the year with my girls and to hear kind of their favorite parts.

  It's so funny, because even though what matters most is kind of how we live day to day, what stands out to them for the year are the big moments, the big experiences, the trips that we took, and those really shape their whole perspective of the year.

  And the truth is, it's the same thing with our work teams.

  How you, leaders, show up on a day-to-day basis absolutely matters most in terms of building trust and forming team culture. But if we don't actually carve out time for some of those bigger experiences, those times to step away from the day-to-day and really connect as a team, we're missing an opportunity to make a huge impact on their perception of the entire year.

  So as we are approaching the end of the year, I would encourage you, if you do not have plans to hold a team offsite, please do it. Or if that's coming too quickly, then plan to hold an offsite at the beginning of next year to kick off. This is a time to reflect on what worked well in the, in the last year, what didn't work so well, and where do we want to head in the coming year or the coming years.

  It is so important, and as I see some of my clients do this and some don't, I can see a huge difference in terms of the impact it has on their team dynamics and the direction that they head.
